Flywheel Explosion Video: Watch This Ratty Looking Chevy Get Violent – The Shield Saved Him!

This is one of those videos that proves you really never know what’s going to happen, no matter the budget or level of motorsport competition is taking place. This is a tug of war contest that’s going down in a dirt area where both trucks are effectively hammer down and pulling against each other. You’ll note that the trucks are digging themselves in pretty hard as they try to out match each other. Unfortunately the only thing that was outmatched in this battle was the flywheel in the black truck.

As the header flames lick out of the upswept headers and the truck bounces between wheelies and grinding against the Earth you’ll hear the engine RPM come up and then all of a sudden BOOM! The sparks and parts shoot out at 90-degree angles below the truck and the thing thuds back to sitting on all four wheels. The neatest part of the video comes next as the shattered chunks of the flywheel are embedded into the ground. They are not just in there a little, they are literally sunken into the Earth so deep that the guys attempting to extract them basically give up.

Looking under the truck is another wild thing. We see that the transmission had a blow-proof bell housing on it and the whole transmission was obviously severed right off the back of the engine. The damage is big time and the only good thing about it is that it’s mechanical damage and not physical damage to a human body.

It does not matter if we are talking Top Fuel or tug of war, a protective bell housing is always a good idea. Just watch this.
