While we’ve never run into a video featuring old drag racing footage we’ve disliked, some are certainly head and shoulders above the rest. This one is about 16 feet above the rest and it is only a six minute preview of a longer one hour video. Jim Amos’s name pops up here on BangShift from time to time and for good reason. Jim has long been the guy behind Bee-On Video and Jim has been in the business of collecting, saving, and digitizing old drag racing film for longer than just about anyone else. His video catalog is chock full os amazing movies from races all across the country. We’d argue that few races had the aura, importance, and reputation as the legendary Super Stock Nationals held each year at York US 30 Dragway in Pennsylvania. Legends were born at those races, riots happened at those races, and everyone who was everyone from all corner of the country showed up.
By 1972 the event had classes for Super Stock, Pro Stock, nitro funny cars, and other iron as well. Over the course of the six minutes that this video is comprised of you’ll see Jenkins, “Rapid” Ronnie Lyles, Dave Strickler, Jingle Jim, Brooklyn Heavy, Shirley Muldowney in a funny car, the famed “triple nickel”, awesome dry hops, and a whole lot more. We’re not in the business of selling Jim’s products for him but frankly if you can watch this six minutes and NOT call him up or visit his website and get the hour long film, you have levels of self control we have not even begun to consider yet. Unlike lots of movies from this period, there is glorious sound to match the action you are seeing on the screen.

I was THERE! Showing my age now! I made the 4 hr drive from Ct. Those were the days! Pro Stockers had to be driven in the days of the 4 speed…no Lencos!
