The amazing photo to the left was shot by a photog from Canadian Drag Racer Magazine and captures one frame of a scary wreck from the Mopar Canadian Nitro Jam Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex last weekend. I happened to be announcing this race and saw the crash from my perspective, which was directly behind the car, looking down the track. The video we found shows the opposite angle, basically head on.
We can’t say for sure what happened to McIntire on this run, but running a nitro Funny Car can be a real bitch sometimes. From our vantage point, the car launched, made a move to the right and McIntire added steering input to drag the car back into the groove. In the midst of that steering, the tires broke loose, pitched the car across track and McIntire smacked the wall, very hard.
This video is a good indication of just how quickly stuff goes wrong when the entertainment is fueled by nitromethane!
Why would that idiot in the right lane attempt to make his pass when it was obvious the other was in trouble ! That could have turned into a worse accident than it already was.
