Caption This: Bargain-Basement Lowering Kit Gone Wrong

“Zip ties fix everything,” so sayeth the Freiburger. And over the years he has indeed proven the value of the cheap plastic strips, using them in a multitude of ways that include brackets, restraints, spark plug wire separators, gauge binnacles, and so on and so forth. But a wise man knows not only what will work, but what won’t, and I can assure you that even DF would’ve at least gone for a hose clamp over what you see here. I don’t know the background on the picture, I have no idea what kind of car it’s on. All I know is that somebody was so desperate to lower their car that they zip-tied the ever-loving hell out of it until the coil spring looked like an albino porcupine. Most people build cars on a budget, but if you aren’t willing to even shill out a couple of bucks for metal coil clamps at your local parts store, don’t bother with your suspension period, you’re too damn broke.

If you know someone who would do this, save them the trouble later on down the road and just keep putting their driver’s license through a paper shredder. Just like this other guy…

If that many zip ties didn’t cost as much as a hacksaw and coil spring compressor, it will by the time he gets sick of replacing broken ones.

Bryan, what are you doing on StanceWorks?

3 a.m., the 24 hour Chief Auto’s are gone… couple of stoners “I wonder what it would look like another inch lowered”

    b) Even the Honda guys get up your ass for that kind of rattiness. At least he used grade 8 bolts. I want the picture of the blown out shock tower and strut sticking through the hood. I’ve seen worse. 🙂

they should at least used the heavy duty black zip ties, they are u.v. resistant and hold more than the skinny white ones….. ha, ha.

I’ll have to use zip ties on my next project. Why go out and buy missing bolts? Just zip tie everything together, Ought to work real good on the heads.

zipties up there may not be a permanent thing, he may have been compressing the spring to get it back into the car.

Seriously? You can’t compress a spring with zip ties. That thing is a ticking time bomb outside of the car and an inevitable failure once installed.

Once you compress a spring you can hold it with zip ties, but I wouldn’t suggest it. Have seen it but they didn’t hold long enough to get the springs back into the car.
