Hot Rod Garage Gets Serious With Their Demon 340’s Build: All-New Bolt In Suspension Parts! (And RIP 340…)

Tony Angelo’s 1971 Dodge Demon 340 is a looker, but a runner it is not. Ok, it was for about five minutes after it was roused out of an 18-year slumber, but between then and now, some seriously bad things have happened with the 340ci small-block Chrysler under the hood that have rendered the Demon silent for a bit. That sucks, but ever the optimist, if the engine is dead, there are still other aspects of the green A-body that could be addressed…like the rudimentary suspension systems. While there are plenty of fans of the torsion bar setup that Chryslers ran back in the day, in all honesty it’s a derivative of the setup that first saw action in 1957. And don’t even ask about the leaf springs out back. It’s not a bad setup, but there have been many advancements in suspension technology in the course of nearly sixty years, and if it can be bolted up without cutting up the Demon, all the better.

In this episode you’ll see Angelo swap out both the front and most of the rear suspension pieces for units from QA1. Utilizing a full Level 3 handling upgrade package, the entire front suspension system is gutted and replaced, while out back the leaf springs are ditched for a six-link coilover system that bolts onto a Chrysler 8.75″ rear axle. Canning the old suspension system looks like one of those deals where you could easily end up over your head, but the QA1 system is a straightforward as you get. So click play below and see how easy it was for Tony and his friends to bring his Demon up to date suspension wise!

I like how Tony’s Demon is coming along, once he gets his engine issues sorted out I am looking forward to seeing the results of the QA1 suspension swap, as I am considering doing similar modifications to my ’75Duster.

QA1 stuff doesn\’t look bad, but there\’s a few other real nice front suspension setups out there. He should paint that under hood area the right color instead of hack black.
