Insane In-Car Video: Watch A Mustang Pull A Skybox Wheelie and Smash Down On Two Wheels!

With tire and track traction technology these days, it seems to be getting more and more common for race cars like this Mustang featured in the clip below to take flight on the hit of the throttle. It used to be that the super stock guys and their gently arcing wheel stands were the show, now these dudes on small tires just own the deal. There are guys who will stand cars up on a freaking 275-radial at half track and half throttle! The driver in this car experienced the worst case scenario because he did all the right stuff but his steed would not cooperate.

He followed the text book of the right way to “remedy” a big wheelie. He short shifted the car, he pedaled the throttle, but the Mustang was having none of it and when it did decide to come down it was as gently as a piano falling out of a third story window. As you’ll see the thing literally came down on two wheels, stunt driver style. The driver does manage to keep it of the wall by giving the wheel full right rudder, but we’re guessing the suspension and steering parts were FUBAR after that touch down.

The only good news? It was his last weekend of racing for the season, so at least he has the winter to get himself fixed up and back into racing shape for the spring, though we have to admit, he probably wasn’t thinking about fixing all the stuff he’s now looking at. Good excuse to get better, lighter, faster stuff…right? We’re looking for a silver lining here that may not exist.

great job of recovery! I wonder what the front end looked like, he had to make about an extra turn to keep it going straight. I kinda dig the nonchalant shift while viewing the clouds.

While this may be good advice in “normal” wheelstand situations…he only turned the wheel hard left after the right rear bumper caught, and it appears that helped the car turn left after it came down on the left two wheels…which most likely kept the car from ending up on it’s roof.
