Spencer Massey is back amongst the ranks of drag racing’s elite, driving the Fram/Prestone Top Fuel Dragster for Don Schumacher Racing. DSR’s pulling of the well loved Cory McClenathan at the close of the 2010 season was one most controversial moves of the off season. Massey is one of the sport’s hottest young talents having cut his teeth in the IHRA ranks with Mitch King before getting the shot of a lifetime racing with Don Prudhomme. When Prudhomme retired and folded his team, Massey didn’t get discouraged. He kept up his driving duties by running some IHRA stuff and kept punding the pavement with respect to his resume and skills.
His second break came when Don Schumacher called and tapped him for the seat that Cory Mac had in 2010. A competitive, championship level car, Massey is set to have a break out season in 2011. He’s a hell of a nice kid too and this opportunity is not lost on him. He’s genuinely appreciative to be hammering the pedal in this dragster. We expect a top five finish out of him in 2011.
