Life Insurance…Check: 72 Miles An Hour In A Go-Kart? Seems Safe Enough To Us!

Outside of the one-off builds like the infamous Gixxerkart, when would you expect to see a go-kart ripping past the wall at Interstate speeds? We aren’t talking shifter karts, either, just your basic lawnmower-style engine, single speed go-kart. The one with zero suspension, zero caging and hardly anything to save your ass if the run goes wrong. This is the go-kart you wished you had as a kid and the one you wish you were driving as an adult! In a situation like the setup that CarsandCameras are using for this particular machine, it all boils down to gearing. What chain and sprocket setup is ideal for hauling major tail down the road with your dangly bits precariously close to the asphalt surface? A Predator engine has the grunt to carry this little slab of a kart along, but we’re certain that after about 45 MPH, “hairy” isn’t the beginning of how one would describe the situation at the controls. It has to be worse driving one-handed while holding your phone-slash-speedometer in one hand so you know how much ass you were hauling!

Hey I did faster than that in a ’70’s go-kart…in the ’70’s. On Angeles Forest Highway, no less. McCullogh power. What helmet (?), it was the ’70’s.

That looks like my old Margay Panther X chassis, l had a blueprinted 100cc McCulloch running methanol back in the 80’s…cool video, but shorts ,no helmet,no gloves etc, not a good idea.
