Mean Hauler: This HSV Maloo Lights The Tires Off While Trying To Run On The Dyno

The dynamometer. The automotive lie detector. The rollers. If you want to stop the BS and throw down figures, this is how you do it. No bench racing, no guessing…put your car on the machine and let’s see what she’ll really do. We don’t care if you’ve got a monster like this HSV Maloo or a minibike…put it on the rollers and end the guessing! And that’s exactly what the owner of this beast was trying to do…with 408 cubic inches of very, very pissed off V8 being fed by twin turbochargers, there’s no doubt that the ute was going to crank off a solid reading, one that you’d print out and hang on the wall next to the kid’s school portraits. But you know that whole statement about having too much of a good thing? It applies here.

We don’t know why BYE Performance allowed the ute to be put onto the rollers with stock-ish rubber on the rears, but we weren’t too surprised to see the car hike up on power before the twin-turbo LQ9 went to work blowing the tires clean off. In fact, the only way they got a four-digit reading of any type was when they put a few guys in the back and tried again. Even then, the dyno only proved what the Maloo laid down. There’s still suspicion that there is a lot more in the engine that isn’t transferring to the rollers. We can’t wait to see what this monster will actually do once cut loose!

  1. F.R.O.

Badass VZ Maloo. This is basically a GTO truck. The HSV front end bolts right up, but you need the Aussie headlights too.
I wonder what power it would make without heat soaking and with traction.
