There are few things more interesting to us than miniature engines. Why? For starters they are all handcrafted by their owners and there’s no “store” to get stuff. You want to make a brace of four of ’em to run together and drive some custom made variable pitch props in a tub of water? Have it it but understand that every inch of what you are doing will be created from scratch. That’s the story here and we wish that we had a lot more of it but we don’t. There is a zen-like quality to this video where you are just kind of lulled into this wonder sense of mechanical happiness with the gentle clicking and clacking of the engines and the great camera work that shows us the spinning cranks through the windowed blocks and all of the valve train working in its exposed state.

We’re guessing that the builder has years into this. How could he (or she) not? Between understanding that their mind had to dream up every piece and their hands had to create them, it is mind boggling. After all, we often get enthralled by the machining of the parts but what about the design and spec’ing of them to start?! You actually have to engineer this stuff before you start milling brass, right? How many times did those rocker arms get made or how many miscues ended up in the scrap pile (as tiny as it would have been!)? We’re thinking MANY.

As we have said many times in the past, if you watch this and wonder why someone would spend their time on making such wonder as what you are about to see, you are in the wrong place.
