More Ship, Less Cruise: 1972 AMC Ambassador

More Ship, Less Cruise: 1972 AMC Ambassador

Alright…one of the biggest regrets in my automotive history was an American Motors Ambassador just…like…this. Okay, luckily enough for me, the Ambassador I had history with wasn’t “that’s barely coffee!” brown, instead it was maroon through-and-through, but all the same, I consider it a regret. Here’s what happened: sometime in the mid-1990s, probably 1996, we had one of these roll into the yard. The interior was complete. The body was just fine. Hindsight being 20/20, it probably ran if I knew how to do a revival program back in my junior-high days. And with a little bit of knowledge, that craptacular, underpowered AMC 360 could be kicked directly in the jimmies and made to do something worth mentioning. I know, I’ve ridden in AMCs with some serious snot. I think that poor thing went to the yard whole, never to be seen again. And that’s a shame, because you don’t see them. Period. Who the hell saved a big-ass AMC that didn’t have “The Machine” slapped on the sides? People who bought them new, kept them up, and ensured that nobody did anything but sit and look out of the window.

Alright…I would’ve done a full 1970s tail-high, mag-wearing atrocity, but still…
