Shop Made Tools: DIY Tools Are The Best And This Bearing Puller Setup Is Something You Can Do At Home

This particular bearing puller setup is being built for a very specific project, but the idea and the execution is something you can easily do at home if you don’t have a set or want to make something that is particular to your projects. We’ve shown a few of Cutting Edge Engineering’s projects here at BANGshift and are always intrigued by the crazy level of strength required in everything they do. They fix, machine, and build parts for very heavy equipment typically and so while precision is ultra important to anything they do it must also be bigger and stronger than you might typically see in a car project. With that said, the bearing puller setup that is being built in this video is absolutely applicable to what you might need on a car. Yes you can build yours smaller, but the overall design and execution would be the same.

So check it out, be inspired, and let us know about your homemade tools. We want to see them! Email me, [email protected] and tell me about your home built tools and how you use them. Maybe you’ll be featured here on BANGshift.com.

Video Description:

In this video we are making a custom bearing puller! Removing a close fit bearing is almost impossible without the right tool. These bearing pullers we designed for our customer to safely and effectively remove the bearing cone from the shaft off a CAT 789 Dump Truck. For making these bearing pullers we are using bis alloy 80 grade high tensile plate. We show the step by step process including trepanning and boring in the lathe, drilling and tapping in the milling machine, cutting in the big bandsaw, welding on the locking bars and then chamfering and grinding to finish.
