Pebble Beach For Penguins: GP Ice Race Fun At Zell Am See

Snow. Ice. Two things that require something of great interest to me to be present before I layer up and head outside. I’m not a fan of the colder weather, and I’m seriously not a fan of frozen extremities, ice forming on my facial hair, and my body shivering without any prior input from myself on the subject. I don’t ski, don’t snowboard, haven’t gone snowmobiling, and haven’t had the opportunity to rip up a snowed-in parking lot in about seven years. The last time I played in the snow was when BFGoodrich let Brian and I go off-roading in some Jeeps in Maine a few years back! That’s how snow-averse I am. Do I wanna make a snowman? Hell no, little girl, get off of my property.

So what would it take for me to dress up like an over-stuffed version of myself and brave below-freezing temperatures and snow up to my butt crack? Everything about this video. This is the GP Ice Race at Zell am See in the Austrian Alps, the second running since the series kicked back off last year after remaining dormant since 1974. What is it? A combination of high-end car show, winter rallycross, and a pure winter wonderland scene composed of nothing but snow. From a NASCAR Toyota to skiiers being towed behind Porsches, this looks like a frozen ball to attend. Can you think of anywhere else where you’d see a 1920s boattail racer chasing down rally machines with such a beautiful backdrop?
