Yeah, I’m totally enamored with the the whole build of the Mighty Car Mods’ Fairlady Z. The Z-car is a shapely little sports car, and my one experience with a turbocharged RB26 engine in a Nissan Skyline was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. Combined, it should make a heavenly team and will be a very nice classic driver that won’t have any of the old-car quirks that can be attributed to the powertrain. From the start, Marty and Moog have been very clear that the Fairlady won’t be a hyperactive, super boosted deal. While the RB can be force-fed enough to make four-digit power, the goal for the Z-car is to be street-registered in Australia. If you thought dealing with CARB was a pain in the ass, their laws make that look like child’s play. So the car has to be streetable. But Australia is the land of the Holden vs. Ford rivalry and the 400 horsepower family sedan and the ute…what’s “streetable” power to these guys? To find out, the Nissan gets strapped onto a hub dyno and is rang out for some testing and power pulls. No, the car doesn’t make four-digit horsepower…sorry, but they weren’t kidding about keeping this one mild. But I don’t think anybody would bitch about what they do get out of the car!
