Regular Car Reviews Got Their Hands On A 1988 Corvette – Does The Digital Dash Turn Mr. Regular On?

Regular Car Reviews Got Their Hands On A 1988 Corvette – Does The Digital Dash Turn Mr. Regular On?

The first car I owned to myself was a 1983 Corvette. Wanna call BS on that one? Go ahead…it was a silver C4 with a red interior and chrome wheels. It was a Hot Wheels car, and it’s the oldest toy I still own from my childhood. Somehow, through the years, I managed to keep that one Hot Wheels car safe from the deaths many others faced during my childhood: “fiery accidents”, my brother flushing them down the toilet because a cartoon duck taught him that they should go “down the hole!”, or through simple childhood carelessness. I showed my dad the car when I was twenty, and the shock on his face was perfect. It was part of a birthday present I got when I was a toddler, and to this day I still have it. The C4 Corvette was the first car I could spot on-sight without question, because its shape was so unique compared to every other car on the road at the time. As a young kid, I wanted a black Corvette, with the digital dash, the manual transmission, and the targa roof…it was the most bad-ass 1980s car in my eyes. As an adult…ehhh…maybe a late build square-taillight car with some magic under hood and I’d ditch the idea of a sports car and treat it more like a two-seat muscle car: loud and proud (and usually sideways). Mr. Regular gets to wheel around this 1988 model, and while he makes no excuses for the flaws, he isn’t unkind to the car. We are, however, a little disturbed that he considers an automatic ‘Vette “so fancy”. Nope, not really.

Well…….Chevy never sold any 83 Vettes but they did make a few. I’ve seen one at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.

I had the same hot wheels car…last I saw it was pretty roached out. It was one of my favorites. I’ll have to dig around for it next time I’m at my parents house so I can give it to my 4 year old.
