This Remote-Controlled Concorde Is Just Awesome, Jet Engines And All

No matter how many times I come across videos of the large-scale remote-controlled aircraft that appear at such events as Panoramaflugtag in Germany, I’m always stunned and impressed by the details that the builders of these aircraft achieve during the building of these models. I’ve seen it all: functioning lights, retractable gear with suspension, cabin lighting…this is the kind of stuff that I never even got close to duplicating with any model I ever built, yet these guys spend what have to be thousands of hours re-creating some of the most iconic (or at least recognizable) aircraft that have flown.

In this video we get to see the Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde in R/C form. In life, the Concorde was the hottest thing going, with a typical cruise speed north of 1,400 mph (1100+ knots) and would clear London to New York in about three and a half hours instead of the eight hours normally required by traditional commercial airliners. The Concorde was retired in 2003 from commercial service, but this model faithfully recreates many of the original’s features, including a functioning droop nose, a feature that allowed the pilots a better view during taxi and takeoff that would raise up for flight. The R/C version is powered by two model aircraft turbines and flies pretty gracefully at lower speeds, but just like the real thing, it shines at high speed. Take a look at the video below and see for yourself!

That’s impressive, however I’ll stick to my r/c cars because they are much cheaper to fix if I wreck them.

    This is not a model!

In fact it is rarely seen footage of the so-called German Storm incident when a Concorde flew though a strange electric storm to appear in a country inhabited by giant Germans who kidnapped the plane, its crew and passengers for their own perverted amusement. It’s a good job the abuse the tiny passengers and crew were put through – I still cringe at the memory of those huge German thighs parting – the smell!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrghhhhh – It wasn’t a dream was it Mutti!
