You’ve long know Aeromotive as a leader in high performance gasoline fuel systems but the company has taken a major leap and at SEMA 2013 they proudly unveiled their new diesel truck lift pump! Unlike other pumps on the market, this one has several features that will keep you on the road longer while making more power more efficiently. For starters, the Aeromotive engineering crew spent more than a year listening to consumers and their experience with other pumps on the market. They learned what works and what doesn’t. They also learned what physical problems that needed to be solved and what performance shortfalls that needed to be raised up. We believe that they have succeeded on all accounts. Here’s why.
For starters, the pump uses an adjustable diaphragm style fuel regulator. Most others use a jackscrew style adjustment with a plug style regulator and that causes some issues when a driver lands on the pedal and goes quickly to wide open throttle. Typically, fuel pressure drops of 2-5 pounds are seen out of these other style units but the Aeromotive lift pump and its regulator, there is no pressure drop seen and performance is not compromised in any way. On top of that, there is an anti-drain back valve that keeps the fuel from running back to the tank and then the priming nightmare begins. Not so with this baby! There is also an internal bypass valve built into the top block that makes sure you keep motoring down the road even if the pump side of the lift pump fails. With that valve, the engine pump would draw fuel through and continue to feed your engine. How cool is that?
On top of the power, there is efficiency gains to be made. Aeromotive reports that they are seeing anywhere from 2-8 mpg improvement from vehicles that they have installed test lift pumps on. We don’t have retail pricing yet, but with that type of fuel saving, the thing will pay for itself in no time!
