Take A First-Person Walk Through CTC Auto Ranch, A Treasure Trove Of Machines!

I love going to North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas. It’s got a proper small-strip feel without feeling like you’re at a sketchy, fend-for-yourself kind of place. It’s got a great view, excellent concession stands, and for the most part, the best thing for a dragstrip: no neighbors. Well, minus one, but CTC Auto Ranch is the kind of place you’d want to have next door to a quarter-mile strip. You might remember CTC Auto Ranch from the Roadkill episode where the guys built a late 1960s Plymouth Barracuda from nothing to something. I did, and I still wasn’t expecting to see the place for myself when I made my first trip there. The cars are desert-quality…at the worst, the paint is roasted off and the cars have been parted out pretty well. But many of the cars are so close to salvageable that it’s not funny. You folks in the Rust Belt or the Northeast would lose your minds seeing what is inside the fenceline. And it’s a wide array of vehicles, too…just from what I can see at the strip, there’s an AMC Javelin on mag wheels (the photo car!), an Aspen or Volaré coupe that just needs a heart transplant to be perfect, and a couple of second-gen Camaros. Dig further, and the metal gets cooler. I’ve wanted to do a walk-around there, but Kevin from Junkyard Digs did it himself, and filmed the whole thing. You’ll see what he sees, and you’ll see for yourself just how good this place really is. What would you try to salvage out of here?
