The only way you know what is good is to experience the bad. That’s something that was instilled in me years ago. If you only knew good, how would you know what “good” really was? You have to experience both the yin and yang sides of the equation in order to grasp the whole picture. The good part of that is you come away from a bad day better off for it…you experienced it, you learn from it and you take that lesson and move forward. But that doesn’t make dealing with a bad day any easier. Some people get upset or depressed or go and have a good cry and get it over with. Some people tend to showcase their frustration in…well, more destructive methods. Like banger racing!
If you are unfamiliar with banger racing, do not confuse it with what demolition derby is. Yes, vehicular carnage is the name of the game, but demolition derby is about as tame as a basket of kittens to what goes down in a banger race. There are such things as dog-piling the dead car, full-track blockages being cleared by the biggest tank in the field, and speaking of tanks…who thought it was fair to unleash a 1990s Cadillac Fleetwood limo and a late 1970s Oldsmobile Delta 88 against a field of Asian small cars and European machines? Who cares? The driver compartments are built to withstand all sorts of hell…the rest of the car is open game, it seems, and the hits are brutal. Nothing will have you feeling better quicker than driving a Dodge Aspen station wagon through an Opel, will it?
I think what surprises me most is how those little cars could beat that Caddy so badly! I mean, I get it, mass, velocity, etc, but damn!
I did demo derby for 20 years, sure wish this was happening then. Looks like a blast.
in my town its a bit tamer, and on unpaved circuit

btw, @1:00 black/red car 204 is a friend of mine)
There is a limit to the type of racing I would participate and that”s it! Just crazy!
If I was a chiropractor, I’d be handing out coupons there. Those are some brutal crashes!
