The Hoonicorn Was Supposed To Be A Maverick? Hoonigan Tells Some Secrets Behind Gymkhana!

After ten different Gymkhana videos that require tons of back support, lots of details and tons of planning to pull off properly, there’s bound to be some stories that haven’t been told over the years. Trust us…those videos of Ken Block going 11/10ths in whatever he’s driving at the moment don’t just happen at random. The entire crew and staff have to get involved, locations have to be scouted, permissions have to be gained, and everything down to the tires on the car have to be perfect to make movie magic. But things don’t go to plan. The sooner you accept that, the sooner everyone is happier.

If you haven’t noticed, Hoonigan is hyping up for the release of Gymkhana X, the one that will be the first appearance of the Hoonitruck ’77 Ford. In the meantime, Block and crew are going through Gymkhana facts and tidbits, and some of them are actually pretty cool. In this video, Brian Scotto sits down with Ken Block to go over some of the quiet stories of the Gymkhana videos, like how the Hoonicorn was originally supposed to be a Ford Maverick, how Australia shut down filming for an entire film (which is why Gymkhana 9 was shot in Buffalo, New York) and that Travis Pastrana was riding with a broken ankle during the San Francisco shoot. It’s always cool to hear the stories that you would otherwise never hear about, like bad tires or how they got permission to float a barge out into a bay and let #43 go whipping figure-eights on it.
