The Jester Hits Home: This Guy’s Idea To Make Formula 1 Racing Worth Watching Is Genius

The Jester Hits Home: This Guy’s Idea To Make Formula 1 Racing Worth Watching Is Genius

For decades, the same names float around racing circles. If you’re a drag racing type, you have the Force dynasty, Bob Glidden and Warren Johnson’s long runs, and the omnipresent Swamp Rat, this time with a rail that is powered by concentrated, 100% organic bovine-sourced methane for the most natural of natural gases. In NASCAR, you had Richard Petty, without question a hell of a driver, stick with it until it was very clear that his time had come, gone and had been extended until he was getting punted every week. Waltrip spent years on TV after his racing was done, much like Jeff Gordon is doing now that he’s out of the car. Danica finally walked away after being sport’s whipping child and Earnhardt, Jr. left before the next big one rattled his brain just a little too hard. You could look at any motorsport and see who has been there too long…but look at some of the up-and-comers, young guns who are hard-chargers but who are still battling with their hormone surges every now and then, who are easily aggressive but might be overdoing it a bit, winning nothing but a spot on a YouTube crash compilation video. Who should be allowed to drive? When do you age out and let someone who isn’t being actively courted by AARP get behind the wheel?

In Formula 1, once you get into a driving slot, you ride that mother until you either retire a champ, get punted out by your team in favor of someone better, until your team goes bankrupt or…well, there is that other fate of all racers that does happen every now and then, even in the safety-conscious world of the 21st century. That, and every weekend, same people, same cars, same everything. Wouldn’t it be nice to startle the flock with a wild card? That’s pretty much the gist of what this man, Terry Saunders, is getting at. Too many people are making what used to be a sport with a life expectancy measured in minutes during an event a lifetime career. Why not make a change?

Just what the world needs, another idiot with a soap box and an opinion. If you want a suggestion, how about no political opinions expressed anywhere at any time during the race weekend, like the tee shirts being worn by the drivers during opening ceremonies for example.

Just what the world needs, a idiot with a keyboard and the ability to spell.
Complains about politics when the video has nothing to do with politics.
