Luke’s 1964 Ford Galaxie is a neat old cruiser that is actually being used as a daily driver. Already, we dig it simply because this car is actually being used and loved. It’s also surprisingly clean, pretty original, and to daily a car that’s AARP-level old is straight-up awesome. The Galaxie wasn’t without it’s issues, however. The last time we saw any work on the big four-door, he had addressed the issues involving the distributor on his FE engine by replacing a barely-functioning unit with one that was fresh and playing along. Spark is good…but air and fuel are the other two parts of the equation that are required for the engine to make noise and to move two tons of big-boy Ford. The original carburetor is going out the door and in it’s place is a Summit carburetor, and this is being done in the name of drivability and who knows…performance? Economy? Either way, any improvement will be welcomed and Luke is all about the technical details. Watch and learn below:
Bad bad idea to put your arm across the top of an open carb while trying to start an engine and carb that have had work done to them. One POPBACK and you will barbecue that arm.
That’s not nearly as bad as looking down the carb when it backfires. Don’t ask how I know this.
