“Look before you leap.” Did you ever hear that as a kid? Did you think, even for a second, that your parents just meant that in the literal sense and not in some sort of figurative sense? The phrase’s meaning is simple: know exactly what you are getting yourself into. In this case, our hero driving the well-worn Dodge truck is probably having some regrets about hustling the big truck into the muck like he did. Maybe he thought that the ground was more solid than it really was (honestly, I did.) Maybe he thought the mud would be thinner and the truck would just plow through it like a stream. Whatever the case, the Dodge just stops, with the front axle buried and the rear axle not much better. Maybe he just stalled out when the truck sank on contact, stopping his forward momentum and ending his run before it began. Whatever the case, it’s now time for our barefoot hero to do the crawl of shame into the bed of the truck, to make it to dry land so that he can get his friend to tow him out.
