Thumping V8 engines that make torque for days and sound like the glorious beasts that they are make and forever will make up the foundation of the BangShift performance universe but let’s be honest, there are other ways to make snot and we dig them as well. For instance, let’s look at this truly evil little Mazda wagon from Australia that gets its motorvation from a 13B turbo rotary engine. Sporting small tires front and rear, a stupidly high winding rotary, and hustling down the quarter mile in the 10-second zone the Mazda checks all of the right boxes for BangShift approval. It is unique, sleeper to the core, and best of all it is blindingly fast. Rotary mills don’t make gobs of torque so they are best suited to light, steep geared cars with as many gears as possible stuck behind the engine.
Fast rotary cars require precise driving to keep the revs up and the engine in its power band to best shuffle a car down the strip. Quick runs in a car like this should be admired because it takes more skill and acumen to get great elapsed times with the little rotary than it does with a big inch V8 making enough torque to move Nebraska. This particular car sounds like it has an automatic transmission in it so some of that drama is removed from the launch and gear changing but we’re still able to admire a car that runs into the 10s with an engine measuring out to a paltry 1.3-liters.
We really dig this video because it takes the viewer through a couple of runs with the car getting quicker each time. You’ll see the thing run low 12s, then jump to the 11s, and finally sneak one in before the clock was able to tick a measly 11 times. With its mundane looks, this is one of the coolest sleepers we have seen in the young year of 2014 thus far. The Mazda is equipped with license plates and all so we’re guessing that it is a street legal machine and we’re also going to assume that this driver has humiliated and heaped shame on at least a couple of overconfident muscle car drivers.

Clandestine rotary powered sub 11 second Mazda wagon = Good
Prius with LS = bad
You’re really digging this more gears is better thing, huh… I’m not digging the electronics, but yeah, more is gooder sometimes. 🙂
That scoreboard system needs to come to the U.S.
I love a rotary, there’s something gnarly about the air-shredding noise of a big port 13B like this one when it’s on full boost and hauling hard. I reckon there’s plenty more to come from it as it seems to be launching awfully softly.
Do you have any sort of tips about setting up a web site?
I’m just extremely tired of doing the same old thing in
