Thunderstruck: Cleetus’ Auction Corvette Has One Hell Of A Backstory! Hear How The Truck-Engined C6 Came To Be!

Every car has a story. Someone built it, someone bought it as a brand-new car and from the moment it rolled out of the dealership, the chapters unfold. Some cars have nice, boring lives of just schlepping people around on errands and trips until the day the engine gives up the ghost, and that’s that. Some cars die, become reborn, and live again. There is always a story, and often enough the story is interesting. But to find a story so radical that it defies belief is rare. Think about the backgrounds behind cars like the Ford Torino King Cobras, for instance…factory prototypes that should’ve never seen the light of day have survived for decades, and have been well-kept throughout the years. Or cars like the Silver Bullet Plymouth GTX and everything that boxy Mopar has seen in it’s lifetime. We dig those kinds of tales.

That truck-engined C6 Corvette that Cleetus bought at auction recently certainly has a story, because there had to be at least one tale involved in the sequence of events that led to a 5.3L truck block being jammed under the hood of a Corvette. Did the original engine get blown up during some heavy racing? Well…yes. But that isn’t even the foreword to the life this car has lived over the years. At one point it was carbureted. At another point, it got nailed by a lightning strike while it was sitting on jackstands with no tires on and everything electronic underhood was rendered absolutely useless, and so on and so forth. And we know about it because the car’s previous owner made contact and agreed to share stories! It’s not everyday you get the fully truthful tale on what actually happened to the used car you just scored, and it certainly will be hard to match up to this tome!
