Here Are Two Great Beginner Welding Projects Making Tools EVERY Welder Needs!

If you are just starting to weld, it is inevitable that you are going to get really tired of practicing on scrap metal if you don’t also try your hand at something you can be proud to have finished. But you certainly don’t want to dive into welding a chassis or bumper or something structural before your skill has been honed a bit. One way to do that is by tackling small projects that make you weld a variety of angles and also require some prep work which is key to making any welding project turn out nice. I don’t know about you, but for me there is nothing cooler than making your own tools, and once you start welding you’ll realize you need a lot of them. But some of them, in fact a lot of them, can be made with that new welder you just bought. And it’s practice, so why not?

In this video you are going to see a cool tool often referred to in the welding world as a Third Hand. It looks weird, and simple, but it can be a life saver when trying to keep things in place so you can weld them. Especially to get those first few tack welds in place. You are also going to see a nice MIG gun holder. In fact, it is way nicer than some of the ones we’ve seen and even the one we have ourselves. Both are very easy to build, and the step by step video will have you confidently building them tomorrow. In fact, we’re going to go grab some old drills we were going to throw away to get some parts for one of them.

Watch the video below and let us know what you think.

Crafty. I like the ‘third hand’. I usually use magnets but they arnt good for little stuff as the magnetic field messes with your arc.
