Last Sunday we showed you video of a Toyota MR2 that has been re-powered with an old radial airplane engine. Go ahead and re-read that if you need to. That first video showed the engine running, but it wasn’t looking or sounding all that healthy. The owner of the car is a BangShift forum member and he chimed in to tell us that he was working on calibrating the EFI. Oh yeah, it is being fired by a MegaSquirt EFI setup. Greatest. Project. Ever.
“Frankenstein” the owner of the car has been chatting with our pal Scott Clark and between the two of them, they’ve managed to get this thing running like a damned top. The engine starts and idles well, seems to respond really well to throttle inputs and according to the temp gauge shown in the video, it is in no danger or melting down into a puddle of liquified metal.
We’ll keep you updated on the video progress. Frankenstein says that the car is a very short way away from being driveable. We cannot wait for video of that! Ultimately, the idea is to race this vehicle at a 24 Hours of Lemons contest this summer. Hell yeah!
