I’m normally known for being the fatest mouth at an autocross event, and as the announcer for the Goodguys Autocross Series, I get to see everyone else being the fastest shoe. As a driver, this is a hard position to be in, but it’s all about the Benjamins so running my mouth is what I do. At this years Goodguys Del Mar Nationals that changed. Del Mar was the host venue for the 2011 Goodguys Editors Challenge, which is a competition that pits your favorite magazine and online editors against eachother in a battle of driving skill. This year, all competitors were required to make one timed lap in each of the three cars, including the Ridetech ’69 Mustang, Dan Weishaar’s Hotchkis sponsored ’68 Roadrunner, and Jim Shipka’s Optima Batteries One Lap Camaro. With not a single practice lap, BangShift.com came in 4th!

We know we could have been in the hunt for the top spots with a couple of practice laps, which were allowed, but I was too busy talking on the mic and doing my job to get that practice. Mary Pozzi, 11-time SCCA Autocross Champion, Jeff Smith from Car Craft, and “Quick” Nick Licata from Camaro Performers were at the top of the heap, so we don’t feel bad about finishing 4th to that crowd. Nick and Jeff have one this competition multiple times each in the last few years, but next year we are going to own this thing.
