Video: Bill Caswell Nearly Spins His Car Off Pikes Peak During 2011 Practice

Bill Caswell is preparing for another assault on Pikes Peak this year and we’ve been checking in on him this week as he has been making his practice runs up the course. Caswell ran Pikes Peak last year and hopes to better his performance at this year’s event. He’s got his “big” motor loaded in the car, a 300 hp straight six sourced from a junked 1998 BMW M3. Mixing Caswell and Pikes Peak in the same sentence is like a math problem that leads to the inevitable solution of “close call”, and this video is a clear illustration of that!

While hauling ass up the mountain, Bill hangs the tail out on a corner after noticing a photographer friend snapping away high above. In doing so, the car enters a slide and eventually works itself into a full spin that has us, watching from our couch, looking for a way to bail out.

Hell, just turning the car around after the looper is enough to make us lose our lunch.

We’re going to be harassing Caswell all weeked via text message and we’ll keep you abreast of his status and place in his class. Watch the video below and get a first hand glimpse at what racing up Pikes Peak is like…if you dare!

That, my friends, is not a road to be F**ked with. I used to go up and down that mountain in Dodge B-vans when I worked on that little shop on top of it.

Look at it this way: at least he spun TOWARD the wall. Beats going back to the Start/Finish as the crow flies!
