Bobby Issac and Harry Hyde famously bombarded the Bonneville Salt Flats with a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona stock car in September of 1971. Chrysler had chopped its racing budget and the wing car was reduced to a limited schedule, so the team decided to have some fun during a break in their NASCAR schedule. Today, Gary and Pam Beineke, creators of the G-Series of “never made” 1971 Chrysler wing cars, have truly out done themselves, creating a “what if” tribute to the legendary K&K car.

As is their style, the pair have based their creation off of 1971 sheetmetal, and essentially created the car that Issac would have used had Chrysler gone through with their plan to build 1971 Daytonas and Superbirds.

The car is amazing and highlights the skills and attention to detail that Gary and Pam are known for. Power comes from a 1,000hp Indy Hemi and it is getting used. This is no static show piece as the video below proves. The car ran 190 mph in its first outting at the standing mile in April at Maxton, North Carolina, and will see action at Bonneville this year. It’s going to draw LOTS of attention, and you can say that you saw it here first!
