Video: The COPO Camaro Makes Public Drag Strip Passes For the First Time

While GM is still calling the COPO drag race Camaro a “concept” and that they are still judging “public reaction” while showing it, we’re telling you for 100% sure that they are going to build them. How can we say that? We know of a few companies bidding on doing the conversions. The car made a public drag debut at Bradenton yesterday, running in blown 5.3L Stock eliminator trim.

According to our pal Mike Galimi, who was on the scene, the car ran into the 9.60s on some easy passes that didn’t even have the combo sweating. Reportedly, today the GM guys will swap in the naturally aspirated engine combo and hit the strip again. No word if the bad ass 4.0L Whipple blown Super Stock engine option will see daylight this week, but if it does we will report back.

Others will tell you that the three-way factory drag war “might” happen “if” Chevy builds the COPO. We’re telling you that with this public appearance, it is 100% ON!

Now they just need to ditch the glides, and make crash-boxes mandatory. THEN we’d be DRAG-RACEING!
