Book Racing Engines is a place we have told you about before. From pro stock mills to competition eliminator killers, the crew at BRE build some really awesome engines. In this video you’ll see a 505ci engine that will soon be powering the A/Dragster-Automatic competition eliminator machine of Jack Keilers on drag strips near you (ok, we have no idea where you live but it is a figure of speech…go easy). Engine makes nearly 1,400hp naturally aspirated and apparently was an ex-pro stock mill before being repurposed for the competition eliminator ranks. This is not an uncommon practice with engines that the pro stock teams have used and are done with, especially if they are largely OK with respect to hard parts and can be freshened up for battle again.
Outside of the big horsepower numbers here there is one other factor that needs to be considered and that is the absolutely glorious sound of a 500ci, naturally aspirated engine running full bore at 10,000 RPM. We’re talking absolute 100% auditory pleasure here, people. The sound is completely non-denominational as well. Pay no mind to the derivation of engine. It doesn’t matter if the thing was rooted in Chrysler, Ford, or as it is GM heritage. Internal combustion in its best and more purely awesome form, right here for you to enjoy.
The dragster is surely a flyweight machine and probably packs some captain insano torque converter to best use all of the nearly 1,400hp this engine produces. If you are at an event where competition eliminator, pro stock, or even stock/super stock are being contested, get to the finish line and listen to the pure fury that these engines when they come by at full song. As good as they sound in a dyno cell, they sound that much better when the chips are down in the heat of battle.

They always sound great…til the throttle stop hits 300 feet out.
I’ve never understood why anyone wants a throttle stop unless they’re afraid of going fast.
This is a comp elim engine…. Not Super comp….
The only way engines sound better is if your right there when it’s running.
comp eliminator doesn’t use throttle stops
EXACTLY!!!!!
