Chad’s video of the Bandag Bullet smoking tires is cute and all, but as he mentions in his blog item that truck is a specially built racing and tire frying machine. We’re not knocking it because frankly it is a big rig that hauls ass….BUT…we like our trucks employed and thanks to BS photo contributor Doug Garrison, we’ve got some good old, local American big rig smoke action to show you! Jeff Ludwig shot this quick video featuring a beautiful Mack Superliner cooking all eight tires up a hill in small town PA somewhere. The tuck is immaculate with its big Alcoa wheels all polished up, the exhaust stacks, front bumper, huge fuel tanks gleaming, and the black paint shined up to a mirror finish. This is our kind of hot rod!
While the Bandag Bullet may be quicker from the start to the finish, this mondo-bitchin’ bruiser would be our pick at a bar brawl. If our ears are correct, it sounds like this baby is powered by an E9 Mack V8 which is one of the great engine families in the company’s storied history. How’s 998ci stock sound? With a 5 3/8″ bore and 5 1/2″ stroke it makes torque like a tug boat…as evidenced by the roasting of eight huge tires at once!

Nothing like an old fashioned fully mechanical truck (no electronic engine controls) to perform like that!
Try that with any of today’s tractors, say newer than 2006 and you’ll see this little light come on from the middle of your dashboard and power is cut in order to prevent wheelspin.
No burnouts. Not even a little one.
Have a look at those pre-race burnouts at the “Rodeo du camion” they’re making here every summer, over 7min of big rig burnouts. From locked up fron wheels getting pushed to massive burnouts (that all blacked out rig looks cool).
WOW I suck… I forgot the youtube link!

Hey Doc, I’ve been to the St. Joseph De Beauce uphill races for the past 4 years, simply awesome. Go to you tube and search Gagnon Ride Along, 2 years ago I got the honor to ride in Nicholas’ Gagnon’s brutal peterbilt…
There’s more where that came from:
