Vintage Drag Video: The Day a Turbo V6 Pro Stocker (almost) Slayed the Mountain Motor Field

When Buddy Ingersoll brought out his twin-turbo Buick V6 powered Pro Stock race car in 1986, no one gave a second look. By the end of the season when the 200ci motor was running with the 700ci IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stocks, everyone cared. Not surprisingly, the crying was loud enough to see the car kicked out of Pro Stock, which was shameful.

As mentioned in the video, if he had won the event, all hell would have broken loose among those in the traditional Pro Stock ranks. Ironically, it would have brought the class into the current era and could have spurred on direct manufacturer involvement if the cars had a relevant product tie in.

This video rules and does an awesome job explaining the controversy. We like how Bob Glidden refers to the car as “that turbo thing.” Not thinking he was on board with the idea!
