Chris Holbrook got some SERIOUS hang time during the ADRL Gateway Drags last weekend. He and his Cobra Jet Mustang were competing in the ADRL’s Super Car Showdown class. Having seen and more importantly heard Holbrook’s car at the Bristol event this season, I can say with 100% certainty that it is the most violent and pissed off sounding factory produced car in history. It sounds like a damned blown alcohol car at idle with a huge amount of surge and an exhaust note that no 331ci engine should ever be allowed to produce.
As you will see in this video, Holbrook’s car dead hooks and goes for the sky at the hit of the throttle and he just keeps right on trucking with the wheels up until one rear tire unloads and the car comes back down to Earth with a spark spreading thud. Holbrook was on a solo pass so we’re thinking that he hung with it longer than he would have if there were someone in the other lane, he did cross the center line on the landing.
The camera work is great and you’ll see this wheelstand from every conceivable angle both inside and outside of the car. The Super Car Showdown class has been a quality over quantity deal all season long. The fields have not been huge but the racing has been totally awesome. We can’t wait until we’re showing COPO Camaros doing the same stuff as Holbrook’s Cobra Jet!
