If you are not familiar with Bill Burr, you should be. The guy is a crazy funny comedian and he’s a Boston guy so that’s why I have followed his career. In this short clip, Burr levels his comedic guns at the automotive reality shows that populate the Discovery these days. He makes the point that the Discovery Channel was at one point a network about lots of different stuff but it now has a lot of car stuff on it of the dramatic variety. This clip popped up on my Facebook feed after hot rod builder Tim Strange of Strange Motion Rod and Custom Construction posted it. The whole formula of “we don’t have enough time” has certainly gotten played out over the years but since the shows keep coming, people must be watching, right?
Burr’s over the top take on this is coming from an interesting place. We don’t think he is a car guy so this is coming from the view of a regular guy on the couch and it is kind of interesting to see it from that perspective. We’re always sitting there nit picking choices in wheels, engines, paint, interior, etc on these builds but for the non-car guy it is more about the human element of it which Burr finds utterly ridiculous.
So what do you think? Did he nail it or miss the mark?
