Watch This Awesome 428ci W9 Headed Chrysler Small Block Rip Off 748 Naturally Aspirated Horsepower

I’ve never owned anything with a Chrysler small block before but I have certainly announced lots of races where worked up Mopar mouse motors are making big noise. For me, there’s a weird mystique with these engines because they always sound awesome and they’re typically bolted into really cool iron. Mike Crow’s car from Drag Week comes to mind or a car that we have showed video of before here like the Duster of Steve Clukey who runs low 9s with a small block and a Lenco in a car he has owned since it was brand new. In this video we see a truly stretched small block at 428ci. It has some mighty W9 heads on it, a big cam with nearly 3/4″ of lift and headers that look to be of equally mondo diameter. The engine makes peak HP ay 7,100 RPM and sounds damned good going it, we might add.

The power numbers are 748hp at 7,100 RPM and 610 lb/ft at 5,600 RPM. We totally want this thing in a Dart or a Duster with a stick shift behind it and a good clutch to handle the incessant high RPM violent drops we’d be subjecting it to. We’d want a good ol’ built Dana 60 back there for both strength and because they came under many legendary Mopars through the years. We played this thing like five times to bask in the sweet, sweet sounds of this screamin’ Chrysler. Truly good stuff.

Here’s the complete rundown on the engine –

Shady Dell Speed Shop 428″ Small Block Chrysler on the dyno @ Shady Dell. 11.3:1 compression, pump gas, 4.125″ bore R3 block, 4.0″ SCAT Crank, SDSS Street Port W9 heads 2.15″/1.60″ valves, “772” MP intake manifold, 1050 Pro Systems Dominator, 272/276 @ .050″ .726″ lift, 110 LSA street solid roller, 1.6 T&D rocker. 748 HP @ 6900 RPM, 610 FT LB TQ @ 5600 RPM.

Sometimes I’m such a nerd. That’s a VERY cool engine and I really appreciate what they’ve built but somehow I can’t help but wonder about which dyno that is, how they cool it, etc, etc. You can take the old man out of the dyno lab but you can’t take the dyno lab out of the old man.

@Dan Stokes … I support your instincts that dyno runs can be made to show whatever results one might need them to show. . . HOWEVER…. Ryan from Shady Dell Speed Shop ranks very high on my “list of dudes who have integrity.” A true craftsman which means he has no need to lie about power.

But always ask a dyno jockey how he can be sure that the power numbers he’s showing will actually happen in real life.
