The fearsome power of pulling tractors is kept in check only by really strong hooks and chains. About 99.9999% of the time, this is a wholly acceptable method of restraint but this video shows that one in a thousand pull that doesn’t quite follow the script. In fact, this video shows what could be the most violent pulling run in the history of the sport! The tractor is a mini-modified which means that it is a single engine piece that has an extremely short wheelbase. These are cool units to watch run because they do have a level of unpredictability to them along with all of the right noises and sounds of a screaming V8.
We don’t know who the driver of this tractor is, where this was filmed, or much else other than the fact that the tractor gets all kinds of crossed up and out of shape before the driver is on and off the throttle, making the situation worse. As the tractor is essentially bicycling and throwing the operator all over the place the hooks holding the machine to the sled detach themselves at precisely the moment that the driver lands on the throttle again. What happens next totally illustrates the fearsome power of these mean little bastards as the tractor dead hooks to the Earth and launches itself, like a missile airborne. It literally powers itself right off the freaking ground. Not into a wheelie, into a full bore flight of fancy. Said flight was very short and the landing very violent but it has been a very long time since we saw a vehicle achieve “lift off” simply from applying the throttle!
The clip is short and basically captures the craziness and then shows it again in slow motion. Both ways are fun to watch but the slow motion shot really does a better job of accurately portraying the violence and horsepower involved. Despite these antics, we remain undeterred in our want to sit behind the wheel of a high powered pulling tractor and give it hell a time or two. Maybe we should start with the garden tractors?
