Virgin’s New Craft Uses Nitrous Oxide to Launch Private Parties Into Space

Virgin’s New Craft Uses Nitrous Oxide to Launch Private Parties Into Space

If you think our headline sounds funny, you should see the one that caught our eye at England’s The Enterprise. It said, “Virgin joins 70-mile-high club with launch of spaceship.” They, and we, mean Virgin Galactic (yes, Galactic) and the company’s Sir Richard Branson. Yesterday he unveiled the VSS Enterprise (get it?) that aims to be the first craft to take commercial flights into space. We like hearing that the rocket uses nitrous oxide to help boost it into space with up to 6 passengers.

The story is really worth a read, as it’s pretty funny. A good line about how the California governor was on hand for the christening reads, “Perhaps Governor Schwarzenegger will be able to explain how sending
wealthy men and women into space for fun can help save the planet when
he attends the Copenhagen summit later this week.”
