Horsepower is our measuring stick for so much around here at BangShift. Whether an engine is performing up to snuff, how sad the cars were in the 1970s, the entertainment value of different vehicles, etc. But unless you actually know where the term, the concept, and the measurement came from, can you really call yourself a gearhead? Did you know that the world has two slightly different horsepower scales? And did you know that the measurement was used to promote cars simply because they replaced horses in everyday life for so many millions of people?
All of these questions will be answered for you in this video and there’s also an interesting point raised about the future. The fact that electrification is happening at an ever expanding rate, will we keep rating electric motors in horsepower of transition to Watts or Kilowatts to actually talk about what kind of punch a particular model is talking about?
You may know the basis on how horsepower’s factoring came into play. You may know the players and the maths involved but we’re willing to bet that there’s parts of this story that you don’t know and that’s where the fun is in this show.
