Was This The Coolest Dirt Track Race Ever?

We have to thank BangShift.com forum member Mr4Speed for the tip on this item about an amazing dirt track race that took place back in 1959 at Langhorne Speedway in Pennsylvania. The item was posted on the Hemmings blog site and we marveled when we read it. Imagine seeing a dirt track race featuring pre-war modifieds, late model stock cars (late model to 1959), and high end sporty cars like Ferraris on the same track at the same time!

The road racing equivalent of the day was called Formula Libre and was essentially a “run watcha brung” road race that could (and did) feature everything from open wheeled Formula cars to dirt track creations barreling around road courses like Watkins Glenn and Lime Rock.

We never knew such a thing existed on dirt ovals. This is one hell of a find and the photos alone are worth checking out!
