For 50 years fuel altereds have been considered the most crazed, dangerous, and unpredictable machines to traverse drag strips of any length and for 50 years they have been producing tangible evidence as to why that consideration is warranted. In this video shot at Eddyville Raceway Park we’ll see the War Wagon fuel altered of Howard Farris get tangled up with the Psycho Therapy fuel altered at more than 200mph. The cars were both decimated in the wreck and thanks to their construction the drivers made it. These are real deal nitro burners as you will see from the header flames and they haul ass. Farris has been in the 3.40s (eighth mile) and that’s way, way down in the 5-second zone of the quarter.
With little wheelbase to work with, with no discernible downforce to work with, and gritty experienced drivers that want to win, things can get weird in a hurry and they did here. This video was made from the stands and it seems to show the Psycho Therapy creeping over to the center line and either at the finish or just past it the cars make contact with the War Wagon out front and the Psycho Therapy car coming in hot from behind.
It’s the Nitro Madness car that seems to have left the ball yard, ending up outside the racing surface after presumably flipping multiple times. The massive flash of sparks and then fire adds to the dramatic nature of the whole scene. We’re glad that both of these guys are OK as they are awesome racers.
We hope both guys heal up and both cars are eventually resurrected to drag strip duty.
Looks like the Psycho Therapy t Fuel Altered in near lane of Howard Knowles and the Yellow fiat War Wagon Fuel Altered in the far lane of Howard Farris. What a wreck, glad the cars are built to as good of safety standards as you probably can be with a Fuel Altered machine. May both teams and family be ok and be able to rebuild/ rebound quickly.
