If you haven’t seen by now, one of the two big, bad Larrys of the modern Camaro has finally broken cover: the ZL1, the all-out monster, is set for a fall 2016 sell date and make no mistake, the 640 horsepower sixth-gen isn’t screwing around. We’ve already seen the smack-talk: it’s only now matching the 2013 Shelby GT500’s horsepower, and fine, that’s true, but this isn’t 2013 and engine-wise, Ford’s flat-plane crank GT350 is down on power compared. Challenger guys can brag about the 707-horsepower Hellcat and interior room for days, and while both points are valid, compared to the new Camaro, the Challenger is an M1 Abrams battle tank with a muscle car roar and won’t carve a road quite like the Chevy will.
The ZL1’s supercharged LT4 is the same deal you can find in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, but with a new exhaust system and ten missing horsepower. Considering that GM will always keep the Camaro underrated from the Corvette, ten horsepower isn’t a bad deal. There are two transmissions: a brand-new 10-speed automatic (good lord!) that was co-delveloped with Ford, and our choice, a rev-matching six-speed manual trans. Suspension and brakes are pretty much standard GM hot rod affair: Brembos at all four corners, magnetorheological shocks, steamroller rubber. Inside and out the car gains sporty bits, including functional aero bodywork, Recaro buckets and the Performance Data Recorder software in the infotainment system. Prices? Between the lower-priced Shelby and the higher-priced Hellcat Challenger, somewhere closer to about $60,000.
Way too much glitz. The “Stop me I’m speeding” exterior is a turn off. More speed needs more stealth.
I’ll wait for the 7th gen when they get a new body design. The 5th/6th gen look the same and I’m ready for a new look from the Camaro.
WHAT is going on with that grill mesh.! It’s like i’m looking through an extremely powerful magnifying glass just on that bit!.. Its messing with my eyes urgh!
Love how the 6th-gens look, they’re definitely better in person than in photos. The 10-speed auto does seem a little bit ridiculous though. And here’s hoping that the LT4’s overheating issues it had in the Z06 are cured. And it can actually put the power to the ground in this car

These guys have a little more info. Seems the coming issues are not an issue anymore.
