West Virginia Airport Drags Explode in Popularity

With lots of communities trying to figure out what to do with a street racing problem, it is cool to see a town that has the sense to back a good program to combat it, and even cooler to see that program succeed in a big way.

The town of Elkins, West Virginia, has a county airport that it has allowed a group to use for the staging of drag races, and judging by the first two events, they have caught lightning in a bottle. The spectator count jumped from 1,500 to 6,000 in two events and more than 100 cars were competing at this latest running.

It’s a simple, street-race style setup but it’s popular, and safe which are two great things. Drag racing can be as complicated as you want to make it. You don’t need a super track to have fun. Read the whole story here.
