The WORLD of SCORE videos have some sage, common-sense registration advice for all racers

SCORE International, the series that puts on the Baja 1000 race as part of a season of long-distance off-road races, have recently started producing a videos on how to take care of some basic things in the series. That is included things like how to cross the border into Mexico safely and how to contact emergency services during a race, but sometimes it’s the little things they cover that can really make a difference not just to Baja racers but to racers in all kinds of racing. It’s not necessarily the sexiest topic in the world, but SCORE’s video on how to register for a race is actually pretty dang useful information.

Just about every race series this day has some form of online registration and the nature of running races—what with travel for race organizers in nation-wide or even regional series—means that participants will find it well worth their time to take care of the registration and entry fees long before the racing starts. Having worked at least a little bit on motorsport’s administrative side, I can tell you that race organizers tend not to remember people who do everything right and quietly spend just a few seconds finalizing everything that needs finalizing in person. They do, however, remember the driver/crew/team who show up utterly clueless about things like why they can’t pay entry fees right now in dimes, how they spelled “Camero” on the entry form, what their number is supposed to be, where in the paddock they can park three 53-foot trailers for a 45-minute club sprint race, how many people are supposed to be on the team, and the myriad other time-wasting things that make race organizers red in the face to hear about.

While this isn’t the world’s most exciting video, it’s a nice friendly reminder that the people who put on races work hard to make it happen so spare them a bit of extra hassle by having as much as of the registration process complete—ideally all of it—before you even load up your trailer to go to the track.

With a number of racers in Texas racing the off road racing series here, things like this will be very helpful in the quest to eventually race in a SCORE event
