This Aerial Video Of The Construction Progress At Dragway 42 Is Awesome And Shows The Scope Of The Massive Project

We’ve been following the rebirth of Dragway 42 since the very beginning when it was announced that the Matcham family had purchased the facility and planned to “revamp” it. Well their idea of the revamp was well beyond what anyone expected. This wasn’t the old, “repaint everything, replace the walls, sell higher quality cheeseburger” style of drag strip improvement. Nope, this was a full on tear down and reconstruction job which  included moving the actual ace track on the property, improving the pits, the fan experience, and literally every inch of the physical ground the track sits on. When you see this video, taken by track owner Ron Matcham’s son Kyle you’ll be blown away. They aren’t fixing a drag strip….they are building a completely new facility.

Undoubtedly the naysayers out there will ask, “How old is this video? Is anything happening there right now?” I can tell you that the video is about a week old or maybe less and I can tell you that with complete confidence. How? I went there. I literally stopped in the driveway of Dragway 42 while on my way out to Wilmington and the Ohio Mile. Located about 6 miles off the highway in West Salem, I had been meaning to stop there in the past but never did. It was breathtaking to see the scene you are going to see in person. I literally cannot wait to see the place when it is done, which I realize isn’t going to be tomorrow but with the level of commitment made in just the Earth moving and shaping portion of the this job I cannot imagine what the finish product is going to look like. This is a MAJOR league investment and the sport will be better for it, especially in Ohio. We’re bettting that this track will be IHRA’s premier facility when it is finished up.

My visit to the place was not announced or very long, but I do have the panoramic photo below the video to prove I was there. The thing that struck me the most was the amount of equipment that was moving at all times. Guys with excavators, guys in dozers, dump trucks, etc. This was not some small operation. This is serious business and they are hustling to get as much done as they can. A very wet spring slowed progress but they are double timing it now. The video below was taking from a drone style camera mount and gives you the best possible view of the size and scope that this project has taken on. Unreal!

Great video, wish I lived closer to the “new” Dragway42. Side note, a camera drone was “shot gunned” out of the sky here in South Jersey. Be careful FLYBOYS!!!

This project must be costing a small fortune with all that equipment sitting there. I’d hate to have to use the pisser as far away as it sits! lol

The place looks like its going to be Great! and they already have a NitroJam National event scheduled Sept. 11-12 2015 can’t wait

I raced there weekly and drive by it to get to my parents house. The pictures and video do not do this justice! What Matcham and Vito are doing is unbelievable!

Nice to see this, I live out west now but as a kid we went to 42 when the big event for the night would be the funny car vs. top fuel shoot out. This was the early 70s , barely any lighting but the nitro burners looked awesome

I always liked racing there because they knew how to prep the track and it was always the House of Hook… I can’t wait to try out the new racing surface!
