(Photos by Wes Allison) – We’ll be back with more sportsman racing photos tomorrow from the 2017 NHRA Circle K Winternationals but today we’re burning some nitro! Here’s a look at the nitro funny car field from the event. Matt Hagan was the eventual winner of the race and in the process he and his team matched the all time performance marks ever achieved by a nitro funny car running in 3.82 at over 335mph to close qualifying on Saturday night.

It was an entertaining weekend for funny cars with guys like Del Worsham debuting the effort he is fielding with his dad, Gary Densham attempting to qualify along with privateers like Robert Schwab. The Force/Schumacher clan was at it and JR Todd showed his driving chops as he now wheels the DHL funny car out of the Kalitta Motorsports camp.

Fans love the floppers, that is for sure. John Force was another flyer at the event. He too managed to run 335mph on the tune up of newly reacquired crew chief Jimmy Prock. If Force was an outside shot for a championship contention in years past, he may be right back in the thick of things now. Time will tell!
