Outlaw Gassers And Local Heroes Headline Hugh Huffman Memorial At New London Dragway – Photo Coverage

(Photos by Benoit Pigeon) – New London Dragway is one of the neatest strips I have ever visited and I stopped there off-season with my family last winter. It is nice to see the place as a living, breathing entity per the photos that Benoit Pigeon sent along from the Hugh Huffman Memorial race last weekend. On hand were Jim Oddy and his AA/Outlaw Gassers, a bunch of entertaining and cool local cars, along with dragsters, altereds, and a plethora of bracket racers. If you think that this drag strip looks like a runway, that’s because it is. Nestled in New London, Virginia it is a really neat setup and as you can tell, there are few tracks in the country that still have this type of truly historic feel to them. Heck, look at the photos below and the people just hanging out at the back of their car watching the races. Fun, right?

Benoit reports that Oddy and the boys put on one heck of a show and the variety of neat local cars really kept him and the fans entertained. This track has been in operation since the late 1950s and it looks much the same as it did nearly 60 years ago. There’s something awesome about having period looking cars at a period looking track. Admit it, this is awesome!

I’m really glad to see that Chevy van running again!! I saw it on fee-bay last year up for auction. My wife wouldn’t let me bid, as we already have 9 cars, that I have managed to hang on to

Looking for pictures of Hugh Huffman’s white 1957 Chevy from the memorial race at New London Dragstrip? Didn’t see any on the site. Thanks
