Best of 2014: Watch AJ Fiorelli Pull A 1200′ Wheelstand At The Byron World Power Wheelstanding Championships – Longest Ever At Legendary Competition

There have been many incredible things that have happened at the World Power Wheelstanding Championships at Byron Dragway over the years but none of them have anything on AJ Fiorelli’s accomplishment on the famed track last weekend. Driving his well known Barracuda, Fiorelli pulled the longest wheelstand in the history of the competition carrying the front tires nearly the entire length of the quarter mile track without wheelie bars, steering brakes, or apparently an ounce of fear. We have showed you plenty of video of this car but it is all way less impressive now that he has done this.

Ron Leek who owns Byron Dragway and has since the 1960s was the man who crafted the idea for this fall competition and over the years it has grown and grown and grown into something that is covered by all sorts of media outlets and sells A LOT of tickets to a drag strip that is normally blustery and cold at this time of the year. Competitors and fans alike bundle up to see who has the balls, horsepower, and chassis setup to carry the front wheels of their car furthest down the track. In years past competitors have taken wheelies to the eighth mile and maybe a little farther but no one has done this and done it in such a graceful and drama free manner. The car came up as expected, unloaded the rear tires for a brief second, landed, caught traction and motored down with the nose in a near vertical position for well over 1,000ft and maybe more and 1,100 feet. This is truly awesome!

Look carefully when he launches – the first 50 feet. Do I see a wheele bar? It looks like it’s just under the rear bumper.

    Hell of a run!

It really does look like there’s a pair of small wheels on a bar just under the bumper. Still cool though!
