Wild Video: Ride On The Metal Mafia Fuel Altered As It Blows The Supercharger Off At The Top End!

The Metal Mafia is one of our favorite fuel altereds in the world. The boys run the car with a very awesome and pretty basic iron big block Chevy in it. The thing makes flames, it runs as fast as it should and best of all, the car is different and cool. Being the cool customers that they are, the guys towed the car to Bakersfield to take on the best at the March Meet. Unfortunately the week did not exactly get off to a great start as the guys were making the Thursday test pass you will see below.

The car seems to be on a pretty decent run with all systems in check and then at about 1,000ft BOOM! The engine explodes and tests the strength of the blower straps. CompetitionPlusTv put this video together using starting line footage and the team’s own GoPro videos which capture the explosion and fire ball from ground, from the nose of the car facing back and fro the wing on the rear of the machine.

We don’t know the full extent of the damage but we’re guessing it is pretty ugly in there. Hopefully the boys can get the car squared away before the temperatures rise and their match race commitments start!

So, you want to drive a fuel altered?

Altered drivers have balls so big that they just laugh this off and calmly rebuild the motor!

We will be back soon. surprisingly it did not hurt the blower and all the valvetrain is still in it. the biggest killer was the fire burned off one of the air line to the lenco and it shifted back into low and knocked a rod out.

Reviewing the video “Ride On The Metal Mafia Fuel Altered As It Blows”
over and over, I notice the ignition wiring got into the exhaust header on the right bank at the same moment the explosion happened. Is this possibly that was the cause of the the bent rod and or explosion?

the wires are tethered… they look close but can\’t touch. if you really really watch the wing view just before the boom it dropped #7 cylinder. which normally isn\’t catastrophic… but there were two cylinders that were a little toastier than they needed to be and when 7 wussed out those two fought for the bragging rights of backfiring into the manifold… holding 96% nitromethane compressed north of 30# and boom… FB infamy lol…. nitromethane is for dummies lol
